Minamisanriku = The Hague SAEZ (Special Art Experiment Zone) * is a hybrid art "special zone" that will bring together two distant places on earth, Minamisanriku in Miyagi Prefecture and The Hague in the Netherlands, in order to mutually stimulate culture and economy. The project will start with a V-AIR (Virtual Artist-in-Residence) in the spring of 2021, when the arrival of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) restricts people's face-to-face contact and mobility.
The visual on this page is a kind of surreal "encounter" between two regions, far apart, with very different geopolitics and histories, suddenly facing each other virtually across the sea (!). This is a kind of surreal "encounter". In this post-pandemic era, a new network of regions, artists and people, artists and each other is about to begin, transcending geographical distances.
